Thai Pongal is celebrated on January 14th 2009 by the Tamils all over the world. It’s a festival of thanks giving. It is also known as harvest festival. The month of Thai is considered auspicious by the Tamils, which will last from January 14th 2009 to February 15th 2009. Weddings take place during the month of Thai.

There is a famous saying in Tamil-“Thai Piranthaal Vazhi Pirakkum”-It means the birth of the month of Thai will pave the way. Sweet rice is made and offered to Sun God at the temples and houses on this day.

To capture the cultural beauty around you in camera and present it to a large number is surely a useful exercise.

I have gained much pleasure in seeing your photographic talent in these columns presenting our common wealth in matters religious as well. There is so much depth and beauty in Buddhism, Hinduism and Christianity in our plural society. How one wishes we focused more on the salient aspects of these in these confused times of suspicion and prejducie.

To respect the culture and religious beliefs of others around you just as much as your own is an important aspect of what civilisation is all about.

    Hi Dushiyanthini,

I love your blog! I have taken a look at almost all of your collections. I can almost live in the situations and smell the diesel-filled Colombo life, yet I’m so far away from my homeland. Thanks for all the wonderful pictures.

    Regards,
